2017 West Coast Open Seminar

On October 14, 2017, I travelled to Lakewood, Washington to conduct 3 kumite seminars for the athletes participating in the West Coast Open.

Sensei Chuck Sweigart is chief instructor at the WKA-Lakewood Dojo and WKF Licensed Referee-A in Kata & Kumite.  He is a long-time friend and this is my fourth time at this pretigious event.

Thank you to Sensei Chuck & Tunde Sweigart for an amazing time and all the students at Lakewood Dojo for making me feel at home.

2017 Teikyo University Seminar

On February 22, 2017, world-renowned instructor, Kagawa Sensei, brought a team of 55 athletes from Teikyo University to train at IKF hombu dojo.

Both the women's and men's team kata performed their syncronized kata and bunkai with exceptional timing and grace.  Both teams are the current champions from the All Japan Championships.

Along with the kata demonstrations, there were a handful of athletes who competed in the recent 2016 WKF World Championships and 2017 Paris Open.

This turned out to be a great traiing session for both IKF and Teikyo University students!

2017 Mendonca AMA Seminar

On January 21, 2017, I travelled to McMinnville, Oregon to conduct a kumite seminar for the students of Mendonca AMA.

Long time friend and US team member, Sensei Tony Mendonca has a great grouup of students who train really hard with exceptional spirit.  Although his dojo is relatively new, the talent and culture he is starting is really outstanding.

Thank you to the Moendonca family and all the students and parents who supported the seminar.

2016 AAU National Karate Championships

2016 AAU Nationals were held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from July 6- 9.  Team IKF Hawaii took 16 students and came home with national honors.  In total, we brought home 39 Gold, 14 Silver, and 11 Bronze medals.

In addition to the national competition, I was able to conduct a kumite seminar along with long-time friends Sensei John Fonseca and Sensei Elisa Au-Fonseca.  Each of us had separate clinics and each group had over 70 athletes.

Thank you to Sensei Joe Mirza and the AAU karate family for hosting another great national event.
